DRESSUP! Spring design contest

Someone invites you to contribute a design to our Spring 2013 edition of DRESSUP!

DRESSUP! is a celebration of design, community and fine printing. With each edition we collaborate with designer types like you to create a wearable, snazzy piece of letterpress art to help you promote yourself and our local shop.

The Skinny

This edition of DRESSUP! celebrates Spring with a 2-colour designer Bowtie of your very own design! The winning tie concept will be letterpress printed on fabulous 100% cotton Cranes Lettra 220lb paper and die cut here in our studio. Clip-on bowtie fasteners will be attached, creating a very swanky [limited edition] hand-made spring accessory!

Whats in it for you?

When you win you'll receive 100 Bowties to do whatever you like with. (We suggest using them as calling-cards... just sayin’)
The Bowties – with your name and logo! - will also be available - hot off the press - at our shop at 1691 Dundas West during the Dundas West Fest (June 8th 2013).

We'll be showing off the Bowties online, tweeting and blogging the entries, with links to the designers, the winning Bowties and the processes we'll go through to produce them - three full letterpress runs and a die cutting. We'll be sharing it all with our growing list of thousands of letterpress and design enthusiasts.

Get crackin'! NEW Deadline for submissions is Midnight on 26th May

Grab the contest instructions here and now, and you'll have everything you need to enter and win!

August - Literary Poster Launch Open House

Calling fans, followers, friends and family to join us in celebrating the launch of The Metaphysics of Water, third installment in the someone:water 9-part literary broadside series.

Sunday, 19 August 2012, 2-7 pm

in the Someone.ca press room, 1691 Dundas Street West

Authored by Someone's editor Beatriz Hausner, The Metaphysics of Water is magical, mysterious and possibly a little frightening. It's poignant, and mythic. Download the promotional brochure [PDF]

left: The Metaphysics of Water is a concert of Hausner's enigmatic voices: one serious, informed and focused, and the other wise, sublime and sultry.

Seth's Scriver's images are blatant and brash - funny - helpful ... we all end up loving Raccoon.

centre: Someone's Mimi Li type set every one of the characters in the text of the piece by hand and printed the pieces in four retro, elemental colours. With direction from Deborah Barnett, the broadside is a collaboration of many someones, and is printed on acid free paper that will last.

Signed copies and trade edition broadsides will be ready at launch, available folded and flat for literary and fine press enthusiasts.

right: Also on display at the launch: the broadside has been framed by our Dundas West neighbour, Darrell Kobza from Structure. Kobza takes art framing to new levels, floating the poster above the mat in custom pewter and air brushed, aqua surrounds - swimmingly cool.

Now Available! Take fine press home with you, or give these limited edition posters as gifts

Join us on Sunday for the launch

  • Presentation of The Metaphysics of Water, in two voices read by the author and Veronica Brownstone
  • Readings from Beatriz' new book Enter the Raccoon, forthcoming from BookThug this fall
  • Works by Seth Scriver, and the authors and image makers from the series
  • Video presentations of the Nuit Blanche launch of water one, The Shore by A. F. Moritz and the Naco Cafe Gallery launch of water two We Are All Bodies of Water by Astrida Neimanis
  • Hiphop, funk and jazz tunes from DJ Echo
  • Cash bar offering the usual, fantastic ginger soda and more
  • Impressions, hot off the press, throughout the day
