Someone Water Series Launch

*** Initial trade release available now in the Store ***

Nuit Blanche 2009 marks the launch of Someone's collection of literary art broadsides themed on water. This collection meshes letterpress tools with the latest digital design techniques, in a nine piece series of exquisitely crafted, limited-edition prints of textual and visual art. Reaching back to our roots in the Toronto literary fine press scene as Dreadnaught, this new series Someone: Water uses artistic collaborations to not only exemplify past and present technologies, but to create art of lasting depth and expressive power.

The launch promises to delight art enthusiasts. Five hundred copies of the two-colour broadside will be printed, providing 350 pieces for distribution at no cost to visitors at our Nuit Blanche installation"Impresshorium". Prints remaining will be offered for sale at Someone’s online store, and a selection of 26 copies will be held back by the publishers, to be gathered in the signed and lettered Someone: Water collection, projected for release in 2012.

Three of the nine proposed broadsides in the series will feature writers and artists with a historical connection to Dreadnaught. Another three works in the series will include literary newcomers, and a final three will be drawn from ecology-based writings and diagrams. Throughout the series, water will run through the poetry, stories, and academic excerpts, celebrating humanity's intrinsic relationship with water as a precious life sustainer. Beatriz Hausner will supply the editorial lead for this extensive project and Stacie Constantine will source ecological intrique about water and assist with its artistic expression in the broadsides.

To begin the fine print series, Someone has chosen "The Shore", a poem by A. F. Moritz, excerpted from The Sentinel, and winner of the 2009 Griffin Poetry Prize [House of Anansi Press].

The Shore is illustrated with an image from the collaborative work of artists Susana Wald and Deborah Barnett, entitled ‘Reverberations: Waterworld’, which was inspired by the surrealist wordplay technique from the 1930s called ’Exquisite Corpse’.

At the completion of the series, Someone: Water will be a collection of nine individual broadsides, designed, folded or trimmed to fit to a common size of 6.5 x 11.5”. Each illustrated broadside in the limited edition set will be produced in letterpress colours on acid free paper, and will be available for sale, in both trade editions and signed proofs, as each entry in the set is produced.

The final set of nine broadsides, gathered into finely constructed boxed or wrapped sets, will be released at the completion of the series.
